Forward To The Past

Post 36: New Year Resolution

Resolution’s something that we’ll need this year. This will be the year when we find out if the human race can turn the tanker round, can work together for the good of the planet, because, guess what? It’s the only way that things do work. If robotics have taught us anything at all, it’s that it’s easier to solve problems if you are organised!

 RESOLUTION

We must resolve to work as one
We must cohere to get things done
I’m not the only one aware
Of massive change that’s in the air
There’s latent restlessness worldwide
As people view the other side
And realize they really care

Resolve is very plain to see
When battling grave emergency
How people face adversity
They find that it’s community
That has the strength to hold on tight
To front up to the coming fight
To put down overpowering might
To do the things they know are right

Despite all the bad news of war, floods, war, fire, famine and war war war I am still hopeful. I refuse to believe that the human race is destined to blindly leap into final oblivion, just for the sake of a bit of cooperation! When emergency or disaster strikes it’s very obvious how the populace rush to help; often putting their own lives in danger, to save their fellow man or woman. And one day we will repeat this action on a global scale. It’s just the most logical conclusion!

So, I wish you all that’s hopeful and heedful for this new year. I’ll finish this first post of the year with a repeat poem; written in the eighties, which has an amended title

Compassion  ( or Empathy; or possibly ‘Woke’?)

(A desire to relieve another’s suffering; to show mercy)

Compassion is our ultimate evolution
The eventual piece of the pattern
The final battle won
Illogical self interest will become irrelevant
A useless appendage
A hindrance to true growth
Innate whims, demands, wants
Will change to questioning, reasoning
And necessary compromise

Compassion will colour our actions
Give meaning to our social intercourse
Our global union
When the comfort and happiness
Of our fellow travellers in time
Is as necessary to our joy
As it is to theirs
When the health and beauty
Of our neighbours’ offspring
Is as satisfying to our soul
As our own childrens’ existence
When the respect and tolerance
We show to others’ beliefs and ancestors
Is equal to our feeling
For our own ideals and history
Then we will truly understand
The real miracle of the human race

Compassion will be our ultimate realization
